Camellias, Walks & Other Things

This weekend we went to see the  Camellia collection at Mount Edgecumbe.

Very boring to most of you I'm sure, but I note it here so I can check the date next year, because it really was the peak time for them: most of the bushes were well in bloom, and because it's been so mild recently, few plants were showing much frost damage.  And the daffodil woods were really stunning.

Then on Sunday I took the dogs to Golitha Falls.  This is a 'beauty spot' which is pretty enough in its way but I can never work out why it's such a well-advertised tourist spot.  It's just a riverside area with some paths, of the kind of which we have so many.  I suspect the secret ingredients are 1) a large free car park and 2) a toilet block.

We  paused at Siblyback lake on the way back, but it was 'dogs on leads' all the way round, so we didn't walk very far there.   I'd understand it if the paths went through the sheep fields, but in fact they are completely fenced, so I'm not sure what the issue is.  I suppose it is a reservoir, so perhaps they don't want dogs in the water.   Though personally, I'm not that bothered about the odd pair of dog feet, when the place is full of gulls screaming and shitting everywhere,  entirely surrounded by fields full of sheep dung, and has people windsurfing on it.

If I have a choice between water with a tincture of dog bottoms, or  water with a delicate hint of human bottoms, I am not too bothered, but will just have to hope it's well filtered either way...

I stopped at Taste of the Westcountry in St Cleer on my way home, and got a chicken for us (to cook), and a pair of chicken legs for the dogs (not to cook).  Mollydog ate hers with enthusiasm, but Az required some coaxing.  He's more of a cooked food dog really.

Lots and lots of work coming in at the moment, including a project that I'm looking forward to, for documenting wildlife sightings across Cornwall.  I should go and do some of it...
