Two peasant cottage interiors

I went rummaging around the internet to find peasant cottage interior paintings as art reference ideas.  These are the two I liked best:

Adriaen van Ostade : Interior of a Cottage 1670.  Fancy windows they have in this cottage!

Jozef Israels : Peasant Woman by a Hearth
Can't find a date for this but Israels was around  1824 - 1911.  I like the lighting.

The second *could* could be oilcloth or stretched membrane, I suppose, although it certainly gives a glassy impression.

I don't think the first lot are really peasants, and this isn't a real peasants' cottage. They've faked it quite well, with the lack of furniture, but the posh window is the giveaway. This is the summer house where these two gather for illicit drinking and smoking and plotting; he is definitely plotting. They probably deal drugs through that window, too. The white-haired lady with the bun and the surprising nose is the front for that operation. Nobody would suspect a nice old lady with a bun of anything, let alone being the lynchpin of the Dutch drugs trade.

Is the first one a fancy window, or just fancy carving on the shutter? It doesn't really seem to be showing through to the wall behind.

I could live quite happily in either one if only someone had invented upholstery.

Oh, I like these both - all shadows and rough textures...
