Red deer lady in the woods

As I walked dogs this morning, I felt I was being watched...

Even when she heard Brythen, decked with falconry bells, approaching at speed, she did not move, although she did look round to see where all the jingling was coming from.

I'm not sure whether Brythen saw her, but Rosie did, as she was on lead next to me.  She did not bark or pull, but became very busy smelling  Important Smells in another direction.  I deduce that Rosie has decided that red deer are Way Too Big. Good.  This one was about the height of a Dartmoor pony!

It was a wonderful walk, very special to see a wild deer so close and unbothered.

Well the deeries would have chased...until thorns or brambles appeared!
Amazing photos. :)

my ex-racing greyhound was like that, it's a great quality in a running dog!

Rosie makes mad high leaps over thorns, but she does sometimes trip and hurt herself. Brythen appears to be made entirely of Teflon and just crashes through them, but I do worry about him chasing something like this deer, because she might lead him into the river or over a cliff or somewhere, and they go so far and fast.

Oh, I would love a teflon dog, mine always have skin that rips apart at the slightest hint of trauma, which is expensive at the vet, and then they lick the stitches out because those cones were not designed for sighthounds!
Yes, chasing..=roads, dangers, chasseurs...

Of course you weren't there the time your ex-racing greyhound chased a red deer stag...

To be fair though, that would have been much worse with Teflon Brythen than it was with Mollydog who rushed off and then very quickly came rushing back!

Oh, beautiful!

Glad Rosie decided to be sensible.
